The SSAA Victoria

Programs

 Play by the Rules

Over the last few years the SSAA (Vic) has been proactive in attracting new community groups to our sport of Target shooting. As part of this the SSAA has adopted a more inclusive policy and is encouraging as many of its volunteers, coaches and committee members to read through all the information on the website and also to register and undertake the free online training which provides you with a printable certificate upon successful completion.

Play by the Rules offers free online training courses for coaches, administrators, officials and players about their rights under responsibilities under discrimination and child protection laws.

The courses are short (taking no more than two hours), may be done in part or all at once, and make extensive use of case studies.
The content on this site will help with a range of matters pertaining to the coaching and assisting of minors with our sport to ensure they are in a safe, comfortable and happy environment whilst participating in the Sport of Target Shooting.

The SSAA (Vic) and VicHealth A Partnership for Health

Coaching Program

Another program that VicHealth are partnering the SSAA (Vic) in is increasing our coaching capacity throughout the state.

Coaches and officials remain a problem in most sporting organisations and the SSAA (Vic) is no exception. By developing an accredited coaching network throughout the state, we will have the ability to expand and introduce participation programs aimed at growing our sport for future generations. An example of these participation programs includes those for juniors, women and people with disabilities. These coaches will help to facilitate the development of these much needed programs.

Prior to this partnership with VicHealth there were very few, if any, Level 1 coaching courses offered throughout the state. However in the past few years we have been able to deliver coaching courses to Warrnambool and Shepparton with other courses planned for East Gippsland and Stawell.

Our goal in the next couple of years is to create regional Coaching Co-ordinators that are qualified to run and administer coaching courses in regional areas. By achieving this we enhance the ability of each branch and or club to deliver programs that will achieve greater participation in the sport of shooting.

Another initiative that has been developed for the coaching program is a bi-yearly Coaching and Officials Newsletter. This newsletter contains plenty of useful information on various coaching topics as well as information on upcoming coaching courses. This newsletter is sent out to all our accredited coaches and range officers as well as being available online by following this link.

If you are interested in becoming a coach or want to know more about it, contact the state office on (03) 8892 2777. We urge anyone who is interested in seeing the sport prosper for future generations to consider how they can help and contact us at the state office.

This project has been made possible through the assistance the SSAA (Vic) has received from VicHealth and we would like to thank them for their commitment to sport through their funding programs. No doubt the benefits of their involvement will be a healthier and more vibrant community.
