Shooting for All
As part of our commitment to the community and making our sport more accessible and inclusive for everyone, the SSAA (Vic) welcomes and encourages people with a physical disability. The shooting sports offer a range of disciplines suitable for the physically challenged people, in particular Benchrest, Field Rifle and Pistol. As shooting requires only minor movements of the upper body, modification is often not required and most existing physically challenged participants compete on par with those that are able bodied.
The SSAA (Vic) has developed an introductory program that encourages people with a disability to give it a go called Shooting for All (SFA). This unique program has many advantages which include being adaptable to many different disabilities and time commitments. This program can be altered from a 2 hour once off session to an 8 week program that includes many different disciplines.

Late in 2005 the Honorable Justin Madden MLC, Minister for Sport and Recreation launched Sport and Recreation 2005–2010: A Five Year Strategic Plan for Sport and Recreation Victoria. The Strategic Plan provides a clear and simple way forward for the sport and recreation portfolio to work with the sector to ensure there is an inclusive, collaborative and strong sport and recreation sector supporting a more active Victoria.
Eight case studies have been chosen to be included in the Strategic Plan to demonstrate how sport and recreation organisations and local communities are enacting the spirit of the strategic directions.
The Shooting for All program has been included under the strategic direction titled Collaboration for Development. The aim of this strategic direction is to develop a cohesive sector based on skills development, enhanced collaboration and partnerships.
The 'Shooting For All' program was funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria under the Active for All Abilities Initiative fund. This program has been a great success and a thorough resource has been produced as a result of this program.
If you would like to know more about involved people with disabilities in shooting, or any other sport, please do not hesitate to contact the State Office. A copy of the resource is also available on request from the State Office.
