Women in Shooting
If you are interested in learning more about the shooting sports, want to learn how to shoot or you want to meet more women from the association, the SSAA Vic hold special programs for you. Our goal is to introduce women to the sport of shooting in a welcoming and friendly manner, promote shooting to all women as well as promote the safe handling and responsible use of firearms. We are here to help you with coaching, licence applications and much more.
Women Give It A Shot! Program
One of the most successful, and important, participation programs that have been developed through the Partnership for Health scheme is the Women Give It a Shot! program. This womens participation program is aimed at developing strong ties within the community and introducing women to the sport of shooting via a controlled and safe environment with the support of other women.
Already the Women Give It a Shot! program has achieved positive results in introducing women to our sport and increasing the number of women shooters at participating branches. The physical, psychological and social health benefits that are derived from this project are also significant. With approximately 97% of the state wide membership being men, this program is crucial in our strategy to increase female membership as well as creating a social support network to allow a smoother cross over to our sport.
This four-week introductory program is designed to introduce ladies to the sport of shooting where they are exposed to the importance of safety, as well as the disciplines of .22 prone, .22 sitting and standing post and .22 off hand. But most of all they make new friends and have lots of fun! The cost of the four week program is $80 per person and is payable prior to the beginning of the program. ($20 each per night) This price is all inclusive and includes range fees, hire of firearm, ammunition and a social drink after the shoot.
If you are interested in participating or want to know more about the Women Give It a Shot! Program, contact Brad at the state office on (03) 8892 2777 or by email at brad.watt@ssaavic.com.au.
This project has been made possible through the assistance SSAA (Vic) has received from VicHealth and we would like to thank them for their commitment to sport through their funding programs. No doubt the benefits of their involvement will be a healthier and more vibrant community.
