Shooting club grants open

Shooting clubs across the state have been invited to apply for the latest round of grants aimed at providing instruction to new members, encourage membership growth and provide upgrades to ensure safe and quality access.

Grants of up to $100,000 – matched by a $2:$1 ratio between the State and club – are available through the State Government’s Shooting Sports Facilities Program.

The last round of the program, revealed in October 2015, saw SSAA Victoria’s Shepparton and Wodonga branches among the many successful shooting clubs.

Eastern Victoria MP Jeff Bourman, of the Shooters and Fishers, said the latest round of funding came at an exciting time for shooting clubs, with the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio fast approaching.

Grassroots clubs are the starting point for many of our elite shooters representing Australia at the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics later this year. Australia will send 18 shooters to the Olympics in Rio, which is one more than the number sent to the London Olympics.

“Each club responds to the interests and needs of its membership,” he said.

“While instilling a sense of safety and ethical use of firearms, members are well-regarded to help each other learn new skills and encourage those who show promise to compete at regional, state or international levels.”

Northern Victoria MP Daniel Young said, “… the comradery and social cohesion among members is also an important aspect to the success of clubs.”

The deadline for applications is March 2. To apply, visit this page.
