SSAA Victoria is on a sub-committee advising the Victorian Government, ahead of the sunset of the Victorian Firearms Regulations 2008. The Victorian Firearms Consultative Committee chairman and senior Department of Justice bureaucrat agreed to establish the sub-committee upon request.
The committee will act as a stakeholder group to be consulted about any proposed changes to the regulations. It represents a departure from previous practices where shooting groups were served up a prepared document reflecting what government intended to do.
SSAA Victoria congratulates the government for taking this approach and believes that its involvement will derive benefit. It can now ensure that, unintended or other, consequences negative to shooters’ interests will not get through.
The committee was established as a result of lobbying from SSAA Victoria and its industry partners.
