In Community
The SSAA (Vic) has been involved in community based activities from its early beginnings. As early as 1950's the association successfully lobbied the Victorian Government to ban the shooting of the Wedge tailed Eagle and participated in an information campaign to inform hunters and farmers about the new laws and the importance of preserving this magnificent creature. The SSAA (Vic) has also been involved with many charitable organizations over its more than sixty years history. Please read on to see what we are currently involved with.
THANK YOU ONE AND ALL
Clean Up Australia Day 2010
Clean up Australia - turned a 20 year mile stone this year.
This was a 4th for SSAA(Vic), we gathered at Sandown Railway Station early on a Sunday morning 7th of March and in less than 2 hours managed to collect a lot of rubbish with the help of few of our members couple of local residents and Noble Park Rovers who are supporting us for the second year now.
Well done everyone, hope we will see you again next year for our 5th CUA.
Relay for Life 2010- What a blast we had
20 & 21 of March 32 of us walked 1216 laps over 21 hours.
Raising money for Cancer Council Victoria was what we were doing i
n the lead up to this relay and I do believe we have all earned our sponsorship $.
We raised over $2600.00 this year which is almost $1000.00 more than last year.
Greater Dandenong Relay for Life raised over $40,000.00 that weekend.
Some special mentions, Bernie - Thank you for the use of your tent once again its proven that it stands up to all sorts of weather.
Mike and Racheal for pitching it and still managing to walk over 100 laps each.
Mary and Brigid for making everyone at Springvale range Monday nights to sponsor us.
For setting the competitive pace I must mention our own Bob Cooper and my best friend Racheal Black. Bob walked 52 laps (15.6km) which we all wanted to beat of course (and 6 of us did). Racheal walked 101 laps (30.3km) this was set for 3 other competitive buffs (Sallie, Mike and David) who just didn't want to quit.
Events like this can only succeed with help and support from our Friends, Family, Workmates, Bill Davey (Outdoor Life), Bob Cooper & Alan Stoops (SEC),
Parents and Juniors from YTS Springvale, members of SSAA(Vic) Womens Group, and Field & Game.
With an invite to join us at next years Relay for Life I want to sincerely thank each and everyone who supported our team.
Your Team Captain,
Zdenka McCaskill

The Biggest Morning Tea

Every year the SSAA (Vic) hosts the biggest morning tea, at the State Office, to help the cancer council to raise funds to make a real impact in the fight against cancer, by funding cancer research, implementing education and awareness programs, and running support services for people affected by cancer.
The Sporting Shooters is proud to be an ongoing supporter of the Cancer Council.

Shooting for All Program Sporting Shooters recognised for program initiative.
Late in 2005 the Honorable Justin Madden MLC, Minister for Sport and Recreation launched
Sport and Recreation 2005-2010: A Five Year Strategic Plan for Sport and Recreation Victoria . The Strategic Plan provides a clear and simple way forward for the sport and recreation portfolio to work with the sector to ensure there is an inclusive, collaborative and strong sport and recreation sector supporting a more active Victoria.
Eight case studies have been chosen to be included in the Strategic Plan to demonstrate how sport and recreation organisations and local communities are enacting the spirit of the strategic directions.
The "Shooting for All"program has been included under the strategic direction titled Collaboration for Development. The aim of this strategic direction is to 'develop a cohesive sector based on skills development, enhanced collaboration and partnerships'.
The "Shooting for All" program was funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria under the Active for All Abilities Initiative fund. This program has been a great success and a thorough resource has been produced as a result of this program.
Conservation & Pest Management
A significant milestone was reached in October 2005 when SSAA (Vic) and Parks Victoria signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to control pest animals on Parks Victoria managed lands. Since then we have also reached an agreement with the Department of Primary Industry to target foxes.
We contribute significantly to the management of the National Estate by removing pest animals which are degrading native fauna and flora. The tasks are undertaken at little or no cost to the Public Purse.
SSAA has won national recognition for its participation in the control of feral pests in both National Parks and on pastoral lands throughout Australia.
